Marine bird watching actually forms an integral part of all our dolphin watching programs and also of the visits to the different guano islands. However for groups of interested bird friends we are also offering specialized marine bird watching tours.
These tours are customer designed tours on special request, depending on the size of the group, the time available and the special interests, as well as the coastal region you are interested to visit.
Generally we can differentiate between the following ecosystems to be visited:
High seas
Coastal marine areas
Beaches
Visits in marine and coastal habitats can be combined with terrestrial bird watching in order to create a complete Peru-Bird-Watching-Experience:
Wetlands
Desert Lomas
OrniPro+ - Birding for professionals
Andes
Manu rainforest

High Seas
Peru’s off-shore area is the world’s most productive fishing area. It is therefore no miracle that it is the feeding ground of around 27 species of Albatross and Petrels. High seas bird watching tours on board the Ocean Spirit provide you with a chance to observe these highly threatened species.
Coastal marine areas
Peru is famous for its guano islands. These rocky islands and steep cliffs serve as breeding grounds for hundreds of thousands of marine birds like guanay cormorants, pelicans and Peruvian boobies. But there you can also observe a lot more endemic and threatened birds like for example the Humboldt penguin, the Peruvian diving petrel, the Inca tern or the band tailed gull.
There is probably nothing else, being that spectacular as seeing a band of several thousands of cormorants and boobies following and fishing on a swarm of anchovies. The sound of wings slapping on the water and the dive-bombing boobies will stay as an unforgettable memory.
Bird watching tours on board the Ocean Spirit or the Sea Ray will provide you with an impressive and complete marine bird watching experience.

Beaches and Rocky shorelines
Peru’s Sand beaches and bays are home to an amazing number of marine birds and migratory shore birds. Bird aggregations can become massive. Researchers of Mundo Azul have counted for example up to several thousand grey gulls within one hundred meters of shoreline. In the Paracas National Reserve one can observe flamingos and black skimmers. On rocky shorelines different species like for example the blackish oyster catcher can be observed and in front of the cliffs one can see the impressive art of turkey vultures or even Andean condors soaring in the wind. Land based bird watching tours will lead you to the best bird beaches of Peru.
